The first step in getting your network up and running, is to generate a list that will help you get the ball rolling and give you an idea of who you'll want to target over the next 90 days. This list is generally called your "Warm Market" list and consists of those that will be the most receptive to your new business idea. I'm thinking of these people as though they are the individuals that I can pick up the phone and will recognize my voice when they hear me.
I'm fairly confident that I have a good list of contacts, who at the very least will listen to what I have to say. Being that many of my contacts are business owners, I'm pretty confident that I can show them the value of this service.
I read an article that social psychologists have noted, the average person literally knows 2,000 people on a first name basis. That to me seemed like a lot of people, so I then thought that I should start writing a list of people. Then when I'm done with that list, I could rank them in order of whom I thought would be most receptive to my new idea.
The idea for today is to generate this list with as many contacts as I can. I'm even going to put down those that I have a strong feeling won't want to be part of this opportunity. I'm also not going to list contacts by couples, meaning Jim and Sally Smith are two contacts, not one. My assumption there is that by speaking with them as a couple gives them a stronger desire to reject the service. Getting one excited and letting the partner see the excitement might be a very good tactic.
Right now it's time to concentrate on the task at hand, and that's generating a list of people that I can call and they'll know who I am. After that we'll see what the results are.
